From Invisible to Position 1: The System I Built and Turned Into a Guide

I want to tell you something I do not say enough.

For a long time I was invisible online. Not struggling in some dramatic way. Just invisible. I was doing good work for my clients, building relationships, showing up every day. And nobody outside my immediate circle knew I existed.

When someone in my market typed "best realtor in Cambridge" into Google, it was not me. When a buyer at 11 PM was researching neighbourhoods in Brantford, my name was nowhere to be found. When a seller wondered what their home was worth, the sites that answered were not mine.

That bothered me. And it eventually motivated me to do something about it.


What I Did About It

I started building.

Not with a marketing agency. Not with a $5,000 a month ad budget. Just me, a lot of reading, a lot of trial and error, and a commitment to figuring out how Google and AI search actually work and what it would take to show up.

I learned about long-tail keywords and why broad terms are a waste of time for solo agents. I learned about AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and why structuring content for AI tools is becoming as important as traditional SEO. I learned how to set up and optimize a Google Business Profile properly, how to read Search Console data and act on it, and how to build the kind of locally specific content that national platforms simply cannot replicate.

And then I started publishing. Blog by blog. Neighbourhood guide by neighbourhood guide. Page by page.


What Happened

In 25 days from when I started tracking my Search Console data here is what the numbers showed.

Weekly impressions grew from 75 to over 4,000. That is a nearly 54 times increase in how often my pages were appearing in Google search results.

Average position improved from 10.6 to approximately 6.8. Pages that were appearing near the bottom of page one moved to the top half.

I hit position 1 for "top real estate agents Cambridge" and position 1 for "is Brantford Ontario a good place to live." Both are competitive queries that I had no business ranking for a month earlier.

A blog post about a seller pricing mistake reached position 2 in approximately five days from publication.

My content started appearing in Google AI Mode results. Buyers asking AI tools questions about Cambridge and Brantford were seeing my name and my content in the answers.

And an Instagram Reel reached 4,700 views with 96 percent non-follower reach without a single dollar of paid promotion.


Why I Wrote the Guide

When agents in my own brokerage started asking me how I was doing it, I realized I had built something worth documenting.

Not because I have it all figured out. I am still building. My pipeline is not overflowing. The system is working but real estate takes time and I am not going to pretend otherwise.
